The Trails at TELOS

The Trails at TELOS: Walk, Run, Cycle or Ride

The Trails at TELOS can absolutely serve as multi-use trails for walking, cycling, and horseback riding, enhancing the overall community experience and providing more diverse recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Here’s how these activities could be integrated, along with some recommendations for scheduling or blocking specific times for different uses:

Multi-Use Trail Designation

The Trails at TELOS, with their diverse terrain and scenic landscape, are ideal for multiple activities, including walking, hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. By allowing different modes of recreation, the trails would appeal to a wider range of users, from casual walkers to serious cyclists, and horseback riders seeking to enjoy the natural beauty of Moss Mountain.

Designated Trails or Routes for Specific Activities
To ensure safety and enjoyment for all users, we can designate certain sections or routes of the trails for specific activities. For example:
- Cycling-Only Sections: The more challenging, technical parts of the trail, such as the cliffside ascent  at The Cliffs, could be reserved for cyclists. These portions could include steeper inclines, narrow paths, and rugged terrain that are more suited to biking.
- Walking and Horseback Riding Sections: Wider, gentler paths, such as those through the meadows** along the Arkansas River or through the forested areas near the Tower Homes, could be designated for walkers and horseback riders. These areas provide scenic, peaceful experiences for those on foot or horseback, with plenty of space for leisurely exploration.

Block Specific Hours (or Days) for Different Activities
Another option is to allow all activities on the trails but block specific times or days for each activity, creating a fair schedule for different user groups. Here’s a recommended schedule that could be adapted based on community feedback and usage patterns:
- Cycling-Only Hours: Early morning (e.g., 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) and late afternoon (e.g., 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) could be designated as cycling-only times. This allows cyclists to enjoy the cooler parts of the day when trails are less crowded, reducing potential conflicts with walkers or riders.
- Walking and Horseback Riding Hours: Midday and early afternoon hours (e.g., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) could be reserved for walkers and horseback riders. These times often see more leisurely use, making it ideal for those who want to experience the trails at a slower pace.
- Specific Days for Each Activity: Alternatively, the trails could follow a day-specific schedule. For example, cycling could be prioritized on weekends, while weekdays could be reserved for walking and horseback riding. This might balance heavy weekend usage by cyclists while allowing walkers and horseback riders more peaceful access during the week.

Shared Sections with Guidelines
In addition to designated hours or days, the trails could have shared sections where all users must follow certain guidelines. For example:
- Trail Etiquette Signs: Informational signage could remind users of trail etiquette, such as cyclists yielding to walkers and horseback riders, or encouraging users to stay in designated lanes if space allows.
- Speed Limits: Cyclists may be asked to follow speed limits in shared sections to ensure safety for all users.
- Off-Peak Hours for Mixed Use:  During quieter, off-peak hours (e.g., weekdays in the early morning or late evening), the trails could allow mixed use for all activities without dedicated times.

Community Events and Special Days

- Seasonal Events: The community could also host **special event days** on the trails, such as family walking days, group horseback rides, or competitive cycling events. These events could be scheduled to coincide with certain holidays or seasons, drawing in visitors and building excitement around trail use.
- Nature Walks and Guided Rides:  The Trails at TELOS could offer guided nature walks or horseback riding tours

Discover 7 Miles of Nature Paths

The Trails at TELOS, cross-country trails that weave through forests, meadows, along rivers, and over cliffs tend to have varied lengths, especially when considering different routes or loops for walking, cycling, or horseback riding.

Key Sections of the Trails

1. The Hamlet Entrance to the Tower Homes (through forests and gardens): This section would likely cover about 1-2 miles, taking into account the winding paths through the gardens and forested areas.

2. The Cliffs and Arkansas River Scenic Route: Given the elevation changes and cliffside paths, this portion could extend 2-3 miles along the riverbank, offering cyclists and riders some challenging terrain.

3. Rolling Meadows and Riverbank Section (Orchard, Sheep Pasture, and near the River Landing Recreation Area): This open stretch through meadows could add another 1.5-2 miles, creating a more relaxed ride or walk along the river.

4. The Return Loop via the Amphitheater and Community Center: Looping back toward the Hamlet, this final stretch could be 1-1.5 miles.

Estimated Total Length:
Considering all of the major sections, the total length of The Trails at TELOS would likely be around  7 miles for a complete loop, covering a variety of terrains including forests, cliffs, meadows, and riverbank pathways.

This length makes the trails suitable for multiple activities, from long-distance cycling to leisurely walks or horseback rides. Additionally, different segments can be used for shorter routes depending on the activity.
